Second session at NUH
Yesterday I was too tired to post....hahah totally nuaed when i got home.
It was the second time i volunteered at the Children's clinic in NUH. Again, it was fun. The kids are always so adorable =) The situation was quite different yesterday as compared to my first session. Firstly, when i entered the playroom, i was greeted by a puddle of pee on the floor. I was praying that i did not need to clean the mess up..Thank goodness, the nurse asked a cleaner to come clean it up....but in the meanwhile, they used a paper to cover up the puddle...which i think was of no help. Everytime kids stepped on the paper, felicia and i had to direct them away from the mess..and also lay the paper in its original state...which was damn gross. Secondly, THE TABLE WAS GONE!!!!!!!!!!! we had no where to place the games and we can't really play on the floor cause some parents are not quite happy having their kids sitting on the presumingly "dirty" floor. Thirdly, the kids who came yesterday were mostly of the older age group, 7-10 years old.
There was a boy who caught my attention. (ok i'm not paedophile k...just that little kids with huge eyes are so cute ...and they all happen to be little boys) Just like Prince W, he has huge eyes. Super duper cute...he looked like a mixed blood too...(mixed blood kids are always cuter =P) I was playing with him...then he picked up the paper which was green color, and he would start asking..."Is this red color? No........Is this yellow color? No...........Is this blue color? No........Is this green color? YES!" hahah i thought he was asking me at first but then he was actually asking himself. hahaha hope he doesn't do that in examinations in the future...or they might send him to IMH. haha. but he was really freakin cute. then whenever he wanna slide a ball down the toy...he would ask "may i?" hahah. HOW WOULD I BEAR TO REFUSE! =) the ball was like a super small ball so after he slide it down...it would roll to somewhere else...then i stealthily kept it in my hand without him knowing. Then he started searching...then he pointed at my hand...His little hand came to "dig" into my hand which was holding the ball. hahah i was like shocked....how did he even know i kept it...hmm...
There was another girl who was taking care of her little brother. She was small in size...but she was carrying her 7 months old brother, who looked really heavy, around. She was trying to find a place to let her brother lie on but the whole place was so chaotic..so she had to hold on to her brother. Then her face didn't look too good...then i asked her...are you ok? she was like "didi very heavy" hahaha...she's so nice to her brother...that...i feel so ashamed of myself...i dun remember treating my brother this way. Probably cause i am only 2 years older than my brother while she was 10 years older...(dunno 10 or 4 ....she said in chinese ) ok...giving excuses.
Next i played outburst with some older girls...7-10 years old...quite alot of them. Actually i din know how to play outburst so i roughly say how the game is played...but we all had fun =P
Everytime i feel so sorry when i had to tell them we have to go...cause we would have to keep the games and toys that they are happily playing with >.< I would say volunteering at children's clinic gave me some sense of satisfaction cause i think we have actually brightened up their day...I mean seeing the doctor isn't a happy thing....but with us...probably they would have felt happier. I would probably like to volunteer at the children's ward in the future...there i would forge deeper ties with the kids as they would be there for longer time...and we would be seeing the same kids...but i definitely have to prepare myself emotionally cause....staying there for long time would mean that their health isn't at a really good state. It pains me to see these sick kids...i wish they could get well soon...although i would love to see them again....i think i would not want them to see the doc again >.<
